AIR1 has a busy end to 2019.

Winnipeg Police Service has released AIR1 footage that shows two separate stolen vehicle incidents on New Year’s Eve.

INCIDENT #1:

On December 31, 2019, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a North District General Patrol unit observed a stolen car travelling in the area of Charles Street and College Avenue. The vehicle had been taken from the area of Elie, Manitoba on December 30, 2019.

Officers followed the stolen vehicle and successfully used a tire deflation device (“Stop Stick”). The car then fled at a high rate of speed and was tracked by AIR1 as ground units disengaged.

The stolen vehicle reached speeds of approximately 140 km/h in a 60 km/h zone before it slowed and became stuck on a median on Main Street in front of the Kildonan Park Golf Course. The male driver was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.

Mitchell Grant David Giasson, a 26-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order

He was detained in custody. A female passenger was arrested and released without charges.

INCIDENT #2:

On the same night, at approximately 1:06 a.m., a North District General Patrol unit observed another stolen car travelling in the 400 block of Selkirk Avenue. The vehicle had been taken from the West Alexander area overnight between December 28 and 29, 2019 and had been involved in a pursuit during the evening of December 30, 2019.

Officers followed the stolen vehicle and were unsuccessful in deploying a tire deflation device. The car then fled at a high rate of speed and was tracked by AIR1 as ground units disengaged.

The stolen vehicle drove erratically through a residential area, failing to yield for numerous stop signs. The car eventually turned around in the 700 block of Machray Avenue and drove towards two police units, causing a slow-speed head-on collision. The female driver was taken into custody.

Marissa Simone Eveleigh, a 24-year-old female of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon (x2)
  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
