What's Open and Closed Remembrance Day 2019

Remembrance Day is mid-week these year and due to the pandemic restrictions, it will be very different than what you’re used to. Here’s a list of what’s open and closed on Wednesday, November 11, 2020.

As per Manitoba’s Remembrance Day Act, retail businesses are prohibited to operate between 9:00am and 1:00pm on Remembrance Day.


The prohibition does not apply to a retail business if the only goods or services sold between 9:00am and 1:00pm are:

  • goods or services in the form of or in connection with living accommodation or prepared meals and sale or offering for sale of those goods or services is the principal business of the person;
  • professional health services;
  • veterinary services;
  • drugs, medicines, surgical appliances or infant formula;
  • gasoline, motor oil or related products; or
  • parts and services for the purpose of emergency repairs to a vehicle.

All civic offices are closed.

Recycling/garbage collection

Recycling, garbage, and yard waste will not be collected on Remembrance Day. If your collection day falls on or after the holiday, put your carts and yard waste out one day later for this week only.

On Wednesday, November 11, Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Recreation & leisure

Due to the current pandemic response level, all City-owned and operated fitness and leisure centres, gyms, indoor pools, and arenas are closed until further notice.

Libraries

Due to the current pandemic response level, libraries are closed until further notice and in-person services, including holds pickup and returns, are not available. Our online collections, programs, and services are available during the closure.


Animal Services

The Animal Services Agency will be closed to members of the public on Wednesday, November 11. For more information, including how to purchase or renew your pet license online and to view dogs available for adoption, visit City of Winnipeg – Animal Services.

Cemeteries

As a result of COVID-19, we are unable to host any Remembrance Day ceremonies or tours at our Field of Honour sites at Brookside Cemetery and Transcona Cemetery this year.

Brookside, Transcona, and St. Vital cemeteries are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. However due to the current pandemic response level, outdoor public gatherings are limited to no more than 5 people. Residents are also reminded to practice physical distancing.
