Canada’s first drive-thru-only McDonald’s is coming to Winnipeg, bringing a new concept designed specifically for customers on the go.
The innovative restaurant, which is expected to open in late 2026, will be the first McDonald’s location in Canada built without a traditional dining room. Instead, the restaurant will focus entirely on drive-thru service.
A First for McDonald’s Canada
Unlike a traditional McDonald’s restaurant, the new Winnipeg location will not offer indoor seating or counter service. The building is being designed exclusively around the drive-thru experience, reflecting changing customer habits as more Canadians choose to order from their vehicles or through the McDonald’s app.
The prototype restaurant is intended to improve efficiency, reduce wait times, and better serve customers looking for a fast and convenient meal. It’s expect to bring about 60 jobs to the area. A traditional McDonald’s restaurant with dine-in usually require about 80 jobs.
Where Will the Drive-Thru Only McDonald’s Be Located?
The proposed restaurant is currently being built in the parking lot the Superstore on Grant. It will be located right on the corner of Kenaston Boulevard and Grant Avenue.
Although the building will look different from a traditional McDonald’s, customers can still expect the familiar menu, including:
- Big Macs
- McNuggets
- Fries
- McCafé beverages
- Breakfast favourites
- Happy Meals
The biggest difference will simply be how customers receive their orders, with every purchase made through the drive-thru.
