A lot more Winnipeggers will be spending time in Florida this holiday season.
Beginning November 1, 2014, WestJet will offer direct flights from Winnipeg to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Fort Lauderdale is once of the most popular destinations for spring breakers around North America.
Fort Lauderdale is on only 30 mins from Miami and is the departing port for many Caribbean cruise ships. Currently, Winnipeggers would have to take a connecting flight to get to Fort Lauderdale (or drive down to North Dakota).
Prices for cruise packages and flights to Florida are expected to drop drastically now that a direct flight option is available.
“Winnipeg Richardson International Airport has established itself as a strong market for our domestic and trans-border operations, making the new WestJet route from Winnipeg to Fort Lauderdale a reality,” said John Weatherill, WestJet’s director of network and schedule planning.
Flights will go to and from Winnipeg once-per-week. [WINNIPEG SUN]
