The City of Winnipeg will delay its plans to draft a bylaw to regular drones in city air space. They will wait to see what Transport Canada comes up with.

Transport Canada (federal governing body) is set to introduce strict new regulations for recreational drone flights. The regulation is expected to take effect in 2017.

If approved, recreational flyers will be required to register their drone, pass a knowledge test and acquire liability insurance to be able to operate a drone in Canada. They are also considering adding age restrictions. Only individuals over the age of 16 will be able to operate a drone.

The law will apply to anyone operating a drone weighing more than 250 grams.

Recreational drones are used within the city for photography, videography, and also racing.
