This Saturday, our friends at Disney will be hosting a Family Fun Day at Assiniboine Park Nature Playground to celebrate the launch of the Winnie the Pooh movie.

The free outdoor event will feature giveaways, a Winnie The Pooh-themed photo op and kids’ activities including a Crayola Colouring Station, a Duplo Station from Lego and a Puzzle Station from Danawares.

All the festivities are this Saturday, July 9, 2011 from 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM.

[quote]Winnipeg has a special connection to Winnie The Pooh. A.A. Milne named the beloved fictional character after his son Christopher Robin’s teddy bear, Winnie. Christopher had named his teddy bear after a black bear they visited at the London Zoo. The bear had been given the name Winnie by his owner, Lieutenant Harry Colebourn, who purchased the bear in Ontario before leaving for England during the First World War. Lieutenant Colebourn named him after his homebase of Winnipeg. The film, WINNIE THE POOH, opens in Winnipeg and across Canada on July 15th.[endquote]

Have a very Winnie weekend!
