Remembrance Day is a long weekend this year! Here’s a list of what’s open and closed on Friday, November 11, 2016.

As per Manitoba’s Remembrance Day Act, retail businesses are prohibited to operate between 9:00am and 1:00pm on Remembrance Day.


The prohibition does not apply to a retail business if the only goods or services sold between 9:00am and 1:00pm are:

  • goods or services in the form of or in connection with living accommodation or prepared meals and sale or offering for sale of those goods or services is the principal business of the person;
  • professional health services;
  • veterinary services;
  • drugs, medicines, surgical appliances or infant formula;
  • gasoline, motor oil or related products; or
  • parts and services for the purpose of emergency repairs to a vehicle.

Restaurants may remain open, but liquor cannot be served until 1:00pm.

Recycling/Garbage Collection

For all customers with City collection service (single-family homes, multi-family residential buildings, businesses) – there is no recycling, garbage or yard waste collection on Remembrance Day, Friday, November 11, 2016.

The following schedule changes are in effect for the week of November 7, 2016, for those customers that normally have collection on Friday.

Winnipeg Transit


On Friday, November 11, Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Winnipeg Transit will be observing a moment of silence in honour of Remembrance Day. At 11:00 a.m., Transit operators will pull over and stop their buses at safe locations to recognize one minute of silence.

Also in honour of Remembrance Day, the route/destination signs on the front of buses will scroll with the message “Lest We Forget” in addition to the usual route information all day on November 11.

Libraries

All Winnipeg Public Library branches will be closed on Friday, November 11.

Online services, including downloadable eBooks, streaming movies and music, catalogue searching, and holds/renewals – are available online anytime at Winnipeg Public Library.

Leisure Centres

All Leisure Centres are closed on Friday, November 11.

Swimming Pools

All City of Winnipeg indoor swimming pools will be closed on Friday, November 11, with the exception of the Pan Am Pool and the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex.

The Pan Am Pool will be open 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex will be open from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Animal Services Agency

The Animal Services Agency will be closed on Friday, November 11.

Cemeteries

Cemetery grounds at Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona Cemeteries will be open for visitation from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Remembrance Day.
