Winnipeg burger lovers have a new spot to get excited about as Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers officially opened its doors on Tuesday, June 3 at Unit 1000, 1615 Regent Avenue in Kildonan Crossing.
This marks the iconic American chain’s first location in Canada, bringing its signature cooked-to-order steakburgers and creamy frozen custard north of the border. The expansion is led by North 49 Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, operated by veteran Canadian franchisees Jim Werschler and Gregg Most, with local ownership in Manitoba by John Hall and Turner Ethans.
Freddy’s offers a fast-casual dining experience rooted in quality, hospitality, and a welcoming atmosphere. According to franchise owner John Hall, the Kildonan Crossing location was selected for its accessibility to shoppers and commuters traveling through Regent Avenue and Lagimodière Boulevard. The restaurant features drive-thru service and mobile ordering through the Freddy’s app and website, making it a convenient stop for a quick meal or a treat on the go.
The menu includes Freddy’s Famous Steakburgers made with 100% lean ground beef, seasoned with their signature Steakburger & Fry Seasoning, along with Vienna Beef hot dogs, crispy shoestring fries, and an array of frozen custard treats. Guests can choose from classic sundaes and concretes, which are thick, hand-spun custard creations blended with toppings and mix-ins.
First-time visitors are encouraged to try The Original Double, a Freddy’s staple featuring two thinly pressed patties with cheese, mustard, pickle planks, and onions served hot and fresh.
Freddy’s will be open from 10:30am to 10:00pm Sunday through Thursday, and until 11:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
