FreshCo Signage Now Up at Former Sobeys Location on Burrows Avenue in Winnipeg

Published

The long-vacant former Sobeys location at 1870 Burrows Avenue is officially showing signs of new life, with FreshCo signage now installed on the building.

The new signage provides the clearest indication yet that the FreshCo grocery store is moving forward at the longtime vacant property. The building has sat empty for several years following the closure of the former Sobeys, but that is now beginning to change as the site gets prepared for its next chapter.

FreshCo is a discount grocery banner owned by Sobeys, making the upcoming store something of a return for the company to the property — although this time under its lower-cost FreshCo brand.

The installation of the new exterior branding follows plans to give the building a significant makeover. The existing structure is expected to receive refreshed exterior finishes and FreshCo branding, while the interior is slated for a much more extensive renovation.

The renovated store is expected to feature FreshCo’s modern store layout, updated fixtures, redesigned aisles and a brighter overall shopping environment.

The arrival of FreshCo will also bring a new grocery option to the area and help put the long-vacant property back into active use.

The Burrows Avenue area has seen several changes in recent years, including renovations to the Safeway located across the street and the arrival of new businesses such as Popeyes Chicken.
