Construction is officially underway on a new Costco Warehouse in West St. Paul, marking the beginning of a major new retail development just north of Winnipeg.
The new 161,992-square-foot Costco is expected to open in August 2027, giving residents in West St. Paul and surrounding communities a new option for shopping at the popular warehouse retailer.
For Winnipeg shoppers, the new Costco will be located just outside the city’s northern boundary. West St. Paul is a rural municipality immediately north of Winnipeg, forming part of the Winnipeg metropolitan region. The municipality is located between Winnipeg and Selkirk, with the Perimeter Highway running through its southern portion.
The new Costco will be located at 71 and 81 Meadowlands Drive in West St. Paul, Manitoba, on a 21-acre site south of the Perimeter Highway and west of Main Street. The development will include 1,038 parking spaces.
The project is expected to feature a full Costco retail warehouse along with a eight-lane gas bar, tire centre, food court, and seasonal outdoor garden centre. It will also become Costco’s first warehouse located in rural Manitoba.
A Growing Area North of Winnipeg
The new store is part of the growing Meadowlands development, a large residential and commercial neighbourhood in the RM of West St. Paul. Construction is also progressing on new housing in the area, with additional residential phases planned as the community continues to expand.
The Costco development is expected to bring increased traffic to the area and support additional commercial development surrounding the site. A new Gill’s Supermarket is also planned across from the Costco, along with a new commercial strip mall.
Winnipeg Will Have Five Costco Locations
Once the West St. Paul location opens, the Winnipeg area will have five Costco locations.
- Costco Winnipeg West — 4077 Portage Avenue
- Costco Winnipeg Business Centre — 1315 St. James Street
- Costco Winnipeg East — 1499 Regent Avenue West
- Costco Winnipeg South — 2365 McGillivray Boulevard
- Costco West St. Paul — 71 and 81 Meadowlands Drive
The 1315 St. James Street location is a Costco Business Centre, which is geared toward business customers and carries a different selection of products than a traditional Costco warehouse.
The three existing traditional Costco warehouses currently serve Winnipeg’s west, east and south areas, while the new West St. Paul store will provide a convenient option for shoppers living north of Winnipeg and in communities along the Highway 8 corridor.
With construction now underway, the new Costco is expected to become one of the major retail additions to the growing West St. Paul area, with August 2027 currently targeted for the grand opening.
