The Community Centre Renovation Grant Program (CCRG) has been awarded to eight City-owned community centres. They are:
- Chalmers
- Heritage Victoria
- Melrose Park
- Norquay Tuxedo
- Oxford Heights
- Robert A. Steen
- St. Norbert
The combined total of grant funding for the successful Spring 2014 applications is $375,834. In addition, Garden City Community Centre will receive $50,000 from the grant fund.
“Community centres are a neighbourhood meeting place – families, children, youth, and adults use community centres and their programming daily,” said Mayor Sam Katz. “We want community centres to be able to focus on the programming, and not on how they are going to repair or upgrade the amenities. We’re proud to support them and their commitment to the community by funding their renovations through the grant program.”
Some approved projects include security system and lighting upgrades, as well as flooring and gym upgrades.
The next intake for the grant will be in the Fall. More information regarding the CCRG Program, including how community centres can apply, can be found at http://winnipeg.ca/cms/recreation/facilities/communitycentres.stm
