Manitoba Telus customers have been eagerly waiting the release of the iPhone 3GS, but it looks like they have to wait a bit longer.

Telus recently started selling the iPhone on November 5, 2009 – but Manitoba and Saskatchewan were out of luck since the network wasn’t ready yet.

Access Winnipeg reader Leni sent an email to Telus and this was their response:

Thank you for your e-mail. We appreciate the opportunity to assist you with your inquiry on the iPhone.

TELUS is pleased to announce that HSPA Network expansion into the provinces of Manitoba (outside of Winnipeg) and Saskatchewan is coming in 2010. In fact, TELUS just announced a roaming agreement with SaskTel to bring the 3G+ network to our customers in that province in the middle of next year.

Without a roaming agreement with the two primary wireless providers in each of the two provinces in question, our new HSPA network and devices such as the iPhone could not be offered.

I can only recommend to periodically visit our website at www.telusmobility.com for any updates and new developments in regards to the new network and phones available including the iPhone.

Thank you for choosing TELUS online services, and your interest in our network.

So it looks like they have the pieces ready in Saskatoon for a launch mid 2010, but it doesn’t look like they have anything set in Manitoba yet.

It’s safe to assume that the earliest Manitoba Telus customers will see the iPhone is mid 2010.
