One of Winnipeg’s biggest contributions to the world, Winnie the Pooh, will be returning to the big screen for a brand new story on July 15, 2011. The trailer is above. No fancy 3D graphics, just good old classic Pooh (though I’m really feeling the Keane – Somewhere Only We Know song!)
[quote]Walt Disney Animation Studios returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with “Winnie the Pooh,” the first big-screen Pooh adventure from Disney animation in more than 35 years. With the charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga, Roo—and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail.[endquote]
History of Winnie the Pooh:
A. A. Milne, creator of Winnie the Pooh, named the character after a teddy bear owned by his son, Christopher Robin Milne, who was the basis for the character Christopher Robin.
Christopher Milne had named his toy bear after Winnie, a Canadian black bear which he often saw at London Zoo, and “Pooh”, a swan they had met while on holiday.
The bear cub was originally purchased from a hunter for $20 by Canadian Lieutenant Harry Colebourn in White River, Ontario, Canada, while en route to England during the First World War. He named the bear “Winnie” after his hometown Winnipeg, Manitoba. Lieutenant Colebourn would eventually donate the bear to the London Zoo.
